    The Modbo present’s November’s First Friday on November 3rd, 2017 with “Off the Skin,” a show of art by tattoo artists from Heebee Jeebees, Nostalgia Tattoo, To The Grave, and West Side Tattoo.  First Friday’s reception happens from 5 pm til midnight, with live music by local hip-hop group BullHead*ded at 9:30 pm, and the show remains up through Friday, November 17th.     EPHEMERA by Tony Achilles

    The Modbo presents September’s First Friday on September 1st, 2017 with “EPHEMERA,” a show of work by Tony Achilles, generously sponsored by Colorado Foot and Ankle. First Friday’s reception happens from 5 pm til midnight, and the show remains up through Friday, September 29th. Tony Achilles is an oil painter, illustrator, mural artist, and art teacher, born and raised in Denver Colorado, and is presently working from his studio in the LoHi neighborhood of Denver.  Though having studied under master painters, Ron Hicks, Margaretta Gilboy, and Mark Daily, at the Art Students League of Denver, Tony considers himself to be, primarily, a self taught artist. Achilles has been showing publicly since 1989. Galleries and nontraditional art spaces where he has exhibited work include, Theory and Practice Gallery, Andrew Clark Photography Studio/Gallery, The Art Student’s League of Denver, The Arvada Art Center, The Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Inner City Art Expo Gallery, and most recently, The Modbo Gallery in Colorado Springs.

    Beatles Yellow Submarine Animator Ron Campbell comes to The Modbo and S.P.Q.R.!

    The Modbo and S.P.Q.R. giddily present a joint pop up show featuring Ron Campbell, Beatles Yellow Submarine animator and Beatles Saturday morning television cartoon series director.  The artist will appear live, painting, exhibiting, selling, and talking about his work at both galleries on Friday, August 18, through Sunday, August 20th.  Hours of the show are as follows: Friday, August 18th, 4 pm til 8 pm.  Saturday, August 19th, noon til 6 pm.  Sunday, August 20th, noon til 4 pm. In addition to live painting, the legendary animator and director will be exhibiting his Beatles cartoon art as well as artwork featuring other beloved cartoon characters that encompass his 50 year career, such as Scooby Doo, the Smurfs, Rugrats, Winnie the Pooh, Flintstones, Jetsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more. Campbell began his animation career in the late fifties, soon working on Beetle Bailey, Krazy Kat, and Cool McCool, directing the spectacularly successful TV cartoon series The Beatles. The show debuted on 25 September 1965, and remained number one in the ratings for the duration of its four-year run. He later wrote the forward to the book Beatletoons: The Real Story Behind The Cartoon Beatles, where his involvement in the show is also talked about extensively. The Modbo and S.P.Q.R. are located in the Arts Alley in downtown Colorado Springs at 17B and 17C E. Bijou.  Street parking is available, but we recommend the lot on Cascade just north of Bijou, which is only a $1 after 3 pm.
